How electricity is generated: Haven Power fuel mix 2013-14

Haven Power’s usage of coal generation is about the national average (34%) but green electricity has jumped from 23% to 36%, higher than average.

Interestingly the amount of coal used in Haven Power’s fuel mix is about the same as the national average at 34% but is much lower than it was for the period 2012-13 – when coal was cheaper and many energy suppliers were using cheap coal to generate their electricity rather than more expensive gas.

While the proportion of coal in Haven’s fuel mix has gone down – so has the proportion of gas used to generate electricity.

What we can see is that there has been an increase in the proportion of green electricity. It has gone up from 23% to 36% – a significant increase and much higher than the national average of 17%.

An increase in the use of renewables seems to be the one thing all the energy suppliers have in common. It shows that as a country we’re moving away from fossil fuels towards low carbon energy generation.

If you want to switch your business electricity supplier but would prefer a supplier with greener credentials then Haven Power may be the best option for your business. While it’s not completely green a significant proportion of its electricity comes from renewables. But take a look at the fuel mix of some of the other suppliers such as Opus Energy or Haven Power.

Extremely helpful and clear to understand

"I have found the information and assistance to be very clear, and helpful. I was helped through the process of switching electricity supply by personal switching assistant Suhan Ashan who was not only helpful, but very patient in explaining all of the queries which I had and also researching the estimated KwH for our newly acquired office premises, as we had no previous tenant information."
