SSE’s electricity fuel mix is rapidly changing: only 44% is now generated by coal (down from 54%) and almost a quarter comes from renewables (up from 15%).
There has been an increase in renewable energy as a proportion of the fuel mix across the board over the last year and SSE is no exception. The amount of renewable energy in the mix has increased to 24% in 2013–14, up from 15% in 2012–13. This is much higher than the average national fuel mix of 17%.
Gas is seen as a low carbon form of energy generation so over 50% of SSE’s fuel mix is now low carbon – gas, nuclear and renewables.
If it’s time for you to compare energy prices and you want a low carbon supplier, SSE may be the best option for you. But our friendly team will be able to advise you on the options available – whether you prefer a completely green supplier or a low carbon mix.
