7 ways to save money on air conditioning energy bills

Warmer weather means UK businesses are again turning on the office air conditioner. A few simple tips can cut electricity costs – and save you money.

  1. Set your thermostat as high as is comfortable – the smaller the difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures, the lower your bills will be.
  2. Use fans – air conditioners use far more power than fans. Even mild air movement can make you feel several degrees cooler.
  3. Dress down – sounds obvious but do you really need to be wearing a suit and tie? Thin, loose, informal clothes mean rooms do not have to be kept as cool.
  4. Keep the sun out – blinds on south-facing windows can make a big difference, especially during the hottest part of the day.
  5. Do not put appliances that give off heat, such as lamps or TVs, near a thermostat – they will interfere make the air conditioner work harder, increasing energy use.
  6. Do not set your thermostat colder than normal when you turn on your air conditioner – the office will not cool any faster but money may be wasted through excessive cooling.
  7. Compare and switch your energy bills – SwitchMyBusiness.com cuts business energy bills by an average of 26%. Thousands of UK companies have already used our 20 minute compare and switch service, giving it the top rating of any business switch service.
