Green light for Good Energy’s latest solar farm

Good Energy, an electricity supplier and generator that focuses on renewable energy, has gained planning consent for a seventh 24MW solar farm in Dorset.

New solar supplier for business electricity

The 43-hectare solar farm is situated in an Area of Great Landscape Value (AGLV) so has been controversial. After 650 objections from the public, the project, originally granted in November 2013, halted development for a judicial review.

Nevertheless, the solar farm, at Mapperton Farm, near Sturminster Marshall, owned by South Dorset MP Richard Drax, will now go ahead. The sustainable electricity for more than 6,344 homes outweighed officials’ concerns at the project’s negative effects.

Construction is likely to start later this year. When finished sheep will graze the grass beneath the solar panels.

Compare renewable electricity prices

“We already have six fully operational solar farms and we can now look forward to adding a seventh site to our portfolio,” Good Energy founder and CEO Juliet Davenport was quoted by Swindon Business News as saying. “Each solar farm that gains planning consent offers the opportunity for more renewable electricity to be produced and supplied to customers here in the UK. This latest site will deliver benefits to local people through a community fund, and to the surrounding area via a tailored biodiversity plan.”

Environmentally conscious small to medium sized companies will soon have more sustainable electricity on offer. Greater availability may also help reduce the price of commercial electricity, although SMEs may be surprised at how cheap green business electricity can be. offers a comprehensive comparison of sustainable business electricity deals – including 100% renewable deals – and switch supplier in just 20 minutes.
