Supplier Guide: Dual Energy


Dual Energy is one of our most popular suppliers but tends to fly slightly under the radar when it comes to customer awareness.

We know that many people tend to prefer getting their energy from companies that they’ve heard of, which can mean that smaller or newer suppliers get overlooked.

With that in mind, here’s a guide to who Dual Energy is, and what they can offer you:

Dual Energy is an independent provider that was established in 2009 as a low-cost alternative to the ‘Big Six’. They specialise in small business energy and pride themselves on giving a personal, high quality, service to all their customers.

Smart Meters are at the heart of Dual Energy’s business ethos: the company is proactively working towards the Government’s 2020 target for smart meter implementation. In fact, they pride themselves on installing smart meters in every premises they supply, usually within 4-6 weeks of you signing up.  What’s more, Dual Energy have been listed on the Sunday Times Fast Track list of growing companies to watch.

When you sign up with Dual Energy, you’ll pay your bills using the company’s ‘Budget Plan’ system, via direct debit. The budget plan is a unique payment system that aims to make your bills as cheap and straightforward as possible. When developing your budget plan, Dual will calculate your energy usage based on seasonal changes and the information you give when signing up. If your usage goes up or down enough to change how much you should be paying you will be told about this prior to a payment being taken. If you use less energy than expected then the surplus will be applied to your account during winter or refunded when you leave. Dual will soon be launching a prepayment meter service, in order to give small businesses direct control over what they spend. Prepayment meters will likely be popular with those who have outstanding debts.

Dual Energy aims to make it easy for you to reduce your energy consumption with their Web Analyser Service. For a small cost, you can track your energy usage on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, using data garnered from your smart meter.  

Dual Energy offers a variety of contract lengths, from 12 months to 3 years.

Their latest fuel mix disclosure is:

Natural Gas 32.3%

Coal 17.0%

Nuclear 23.7%

Renewables 24.3%

Other 2.5%

A better deal for our Village Hall

"I recently used this company to get a better energy deal for our local village hall. Other companies were quite pushy but Lorraine and Bhavni from SwitchMyBusiness were much more professional. They sent me useful information by email enabling me and the village hall committee to make a decision about which supplier to use. The switch was done by phone and when the energy provider sent the paper work to the wrong address Bhavni sorted it out straight away. I saved over £1000 for the charity."
