Analysis: Dramatic shift in UK government outlook for gas and clean energy – Carbon Brief

The Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has released new modelling data which shows a future UK energy mix  that will be cleaner and make more use of battery storage than expected. The shift is partly due to the drop in costs for renewable energy. Carbon Brief has an in depth breakdown of the new information.  

National Grid secures 312MW of turn-down DSR – Energy Live News

Demand Side Response is used to balance the energy grid when demand is high, and is thought to be key in securing the UK’s future energy security. Businesses who take part in the latest round will collectively earn £14million in revenue simply by reducing energy usage at critical times.

Energy price cap implications ominous, former regulators say – BBC

As anger grows about steadily rising energy prices, regulators have asked the Government to refrain from intervening in the market. The announcement comes after the Government voiced its disapproval of several recent supplier price rises. Theresa May will announce new energy plans soon, but a number of experienced energy executives have cautioned that regulatory interventions have historically been counter productive.

UN asks UK to suspend work on Hinkley Point – The Guardian

In a potentially embarrassing development, the UN has asked the government to stop work on the troubled Hinkley Point nuclear power project. The government has been lax in consulting neighbouring countries about the project, and how they would be affected in the wake of an accident.
